As soon as I unpause the battle or try to click anywhere in the starfield, the game crashes. The battle mode will start up fine, except that I can't see the ships or the starfield. So I've been trying to get tactical battle mode to work (just sent in a new test result with 1.1.8), and so far have gotten windows native DLLs for d3drm and d3dxof. Also I only think this qualifies as "Bronze" since battle mode is half the game for me, and at least counts as "normal use." I mostly wanted to make sure there was a current report with a more current version of wine. Clicking OK puts you back in battle mode, but it eventually fails out with some error output at the console. Also I got an error message in a pop-up window: "The pixel format was invalid as specified" with an OK button. After getting a native d3drm.dll as described in the comments, battle mode would try to start, but would fail much like the last reporter: lots of flickering audio/video, the battle field and most of the controls are not actually visible. Without a native d3drm.dll, tactical battle mode would not even start. You need to either start the game in window mode (via -w) or change your resolution to 640x480, or else the game will launch in a small corner of the screen. The VM is a good option and looking at that is a good option specially if you are not comfortable with regedit.Installation, basic gameplay, except you can't skip the "galactic briefing" at the beginning of the game play. Hey everyone I have seen alot about the issue of REBED call an full install error and not working and found that when using the download or copy paste process described everywhere to get Rebellion to work on Vista or newer OS's lacks the registry entries listed on this link I will be testing this this weekend and let you all know if this is the case. However if an answer to this could be found, i would much rather not have to fiddle around with some stupid trick just to get a modded version of the game to work. Don't have windows 8 so im not sure if there is an equivalent for that operating system TrueSilver: if you have the cd version, you can get it and Rebed to work by installing XP in a "Virtual Machine" for windows 7 (Get it from microsoft).
